Thank You. Two simple words. Rumbling around in my head. Again, with the song! Newsboys: “Thank You” over and over.
Image: Academy Awards Oscar winners- the words “Thank you”, over and over. Begining to sound a bit repetitious? Yep.
The truth is, these two words make all the difference – for the person offering and for the person receiving. It is more blessed…
I don’t know about you, but when I hear those words from another I am doubly blessed- in their thanking and in my gratitude of their acknowledgement. And, here in the south, well, Texas is in the south, those two words are right up there with mama, dada, doggie, kitty and please in the language of a baby learning to talk. We teach them the words and teach them what they mean by our behavior.
When they get to be teenagers who hurl those words at us in anger: “Well, thank you very much!”; we sigh, shake our heads and if we don’t want a real humdinger of an argument, just walk away. We know the road they are on, we’ve been there, and we are grateful we came out the other side relatively sane. And, we are grateful they are here in our lives, those cute and cuddly babies growing up; those who hurl words like a pitcher in the World Series throws the ball over the plate.
‘This, too, shall pass. Maybe like a kidney stone, but it will pass.’ {my favorite}
And we say: “Thank you, Lord.”
Speaking as a survivor of those years- I am so grateful for three incredible adults in whose existence God gave me a part to play. And who, by their very existence defined family for me and their father in a way we can never express adequately.
ding.
Postscript: A bit simplistic, but what can I do with 5 minutes? Teenagers take a lifetime to explain!
“Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (AMP)
{In spite of our mistakes they made it to parenthood themselves!}
